Your duties may include meetings with coworkers, collaborating with other government representatives, representing the Department at meetings, and visiting one of our many state parks or habitat conservation areas. Part of the Big Picture - Our employees work is user-friendly and extends past the Licensing Team. Our services are relied upon daily by thousands of customers and play a critical role in hunting and fishing in South Dakota. What You Will Do: The Senior Secretary will serve as a critical team member within the GFP Licensing Office in Fort Pierre. The position will be focused on the printing of all big game licenses/tags, assisting customers via phone, in-person, and email with issues/errors and questions, monitoring hunting application deadlines, processing hunting license applications, and determining the eligibility of specialty/miscellaneous license applications. This position operates GFP's licensing system effectively and provides exceptional customer service to people that experience system issues/errors. The Senior Secretary will also update licensing resources, provide support to GFP regional offices on tag/license printing and hunting/fishing license questions. This position will review and comprehend applicable laws, rules, and regulations as they pertain to hunting and fishing, and manage cash handling procedures/duties within the office. This position works in a typical office environment where some lifting may be required. Some weekend and evening work will be necessary. The Ideal Candidate Will Have: the ability to adapt communication style with customer interactions and de-escalate frustrated customers/situations; a strong customer service background; the ability to perform duties with a high attention to detail; the ability to process large volumes of mail and perform duties with a high attention to detail; the motivation to train and adapt to new processes; a positive attitude and a teamwork approach; and knowledge of hunting and fishing licenses and related regulations and laws. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Microsoft Office Suite and how to utilize different programs to assist in daily procedures; computer and internet usage; research methods needed to obtain accurate answers and information for other staff and a variety of customers; multi-task in a fast-paced environment effectively and accurately; basic accounting and financial principles; effectively plan, organize, and prioritize work activities to meet deadlines; and perform other work duties as assigned.
